After Donald Trump won re-election in November, many Americans have wondered what kinds of changes in popular culture and multimedia could be coming. Will there be a sea change in the arts, and will more “traditional” content and themes start appearing on the media landscape? Trump, after all, has made no bones about his intention to seek retribution on anybody who dared to attempt to hold him accountable like any other human being on the planet would be. Will those threats, combined with his scant 1.5% victory in the popular vote totals give him the mandate he needs to force Hollywood to drastically alter its offerings?
According to CEO Bob Iger during an investors call this morning, it would appear that — at least in some small part due to Trump’s return to power in January — Disney will make several changes to the lineup of programming offered on its various streaming services.
“Whether it’s Disney+, Hulu+, ESPN+, or any of other services with the plus-sign slapped onto the end of it, our customers have grown accustomed to getting a large variety of content with an even larger variety of themes and subject matter, but obviously this past election has shown us that the American people are hungrier than ever to avoid content they feel is too ‘woke’ for their tastes,” Iger said.
So, starting in January, subscribers will start to notice that woke content will be pulled from Disney’s various services.
“We’ll begin with the most woke content we could find. Namely, anything that focuses on or promotes Christian values,” Iger announced. “After all, what’s more woke than a long-haired socially liberal man in a long flowing gown telling you to love everyone, especially people you don’t like or agree with? It seems to us that a guy who told his followers to treat immigrants better than they treat their other neighbors is just far too woke for MAGA’s Second Reich.”
