Today is quite a historic day. For the first time in our nation’s history, a man who was once the President of the United States was arrested and formally charged on 34 felony counts in New York City Criminal Court. While the outcome of the trial of Donald Trump is very much so unclear, because today is in fact so historic, we decided to take a look back through the history books at the criminal justice system and its relationship to and with former commanders in chief.
At the outset, our researchers hypothesized that we’d find multiple instances of a president, former or sitting, being indicted, arrested, and tried on criminal charges. However, what we found is that Donald Trump is truly a trailblazer.
