Tits, Not Pussies

February 1, 2012

So if we’re to understand the fine folks over at The Susan G. Komen Foundation, if cancer involves breasts we should drop everything we’re doing and give every dollar to them that we have to the cause so we can find a cure. However, if the cancer involves vaginae, uteri or any other internal body part and can be found with screening, Fuck Them…at least if those people providing the screens also happen to do a small number of abortions as well.

Pretty much the slogan for Komen should now be “Tits, Not Pussies.” As it turns out the conservative leaning of Komen founder Nancy Brinker and the foundation’s new connections to The George W. Bush Institute (which I think is dedicated to giving young Coke addicts a chance at political success) may have cost Planned Parenthood funding it got from the Komen Foundation, which in turn could force them to stop offering services such as cervical cancer screenings and other vital, life-saving tests.

You could say that’s really quite sad that an organization dedicated to a cause that kills thousands of women would pull funding from another organization that offers free or very cheap medical services to women, to prevent them from eventually dying of a disease that kills thousands of women. You could also say that at some point people should stop fixating on the abortion aspect of the services that Planned Parenthood offers since it makes up a small percentage of the actual work done there.

Then again, one could also say that in 2012 issues of women’s health really shouldn’t be a political football, and that a group dedicated specifically to curing a disease that effects millions of women should stand in solidarity with a group that provides vital health services to women who can’t afford them or don’t have health insurance that covers them. So if we’re busy saying things, maybe we should just get it all out on the table.

Nancy Brinker, Founder of The Susan G. Komen Foundation

It begs the question of what Brinker would feel about every Liberal in the country pulling funding for the Komen Foundation based on their ties to George W. Bush. Call me crazy, but I always thought that since disease and death doesn’t give a fuck which party you belong to, which God you pray to, or if you’ve ever gotten an abortion that funding shouldn’t be given or denied based on political affiliations. Then again, I’m not a douchebag. So maybe that’s where the problem lies.

Sound off!
